Volunteer Substitute Teachers

Dear Parents:

The Frostwood PTA and the administration at Frostwood are looking for ways to help our school save money. One way we can help, as parents, is by donating our time to act as substitutes in the classrooms while our teachers participate in teacher training events throughout the year. These training events are special events funded by the PTA, beyond what is typically provided by the district.

The training events require our teachers to be out of the classroom for as much as half a day. Typically, our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade teachers participate in training as a group in the morning, while our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers participate as a group in the afternoon. Paying for district subs to fill every classroom during these events is a huge financial commitment for our school. Parent volunteers are a tremendous help. Some training is required, but any parent who has coached a sport, run a church or community class or led a boy or Girl Scout troop can easily manage a classroom for half a day. In order to qualify for this program, you must complete the following steps:

1. Email Christine LaMarra.
2. Take your “Fast Pass,” provided by the district, to a local business office to be fingerprinted. The cost is $50.20. For certified teachers, the cost is $52.20.
3. Complete a 5-hour online training course. The cost is $25.00
